We have formed some wonderful partnerships with people in Honduras with organizations in the states.
Members of WOM have helped coordinate Matching Grants through the local Washington Rotary Club and Rotary International to build ten masonry homes. The Washington Rotary supported WOM in a pilot program to provide diabetes testing and treatment as well as the initial year of our successful Pap program by providing Pap Tests to over 500 women. Water purification projects, storage tanks and water distribution have been a focus of Rotary International grants as well.
A serendipitous journalism assignment has spawned a relationship with The PET Project which will lead to the shipment this year of more than 200 hand-powered carts for people who formerly had no means of independent locomotion.
Engineers Without Borders
In 2010 several members of Washington Overseas Mission formed “Primero Agua” (Water First) a non-profit foundation whose objective is to help bring clean potable water to the people of Honduras. Primero Agua organizes small teams of experts in Well Drilling, Engineering, Project Management and Education to work closely with its Honduran subsidiary organization, “El Agua Tu Prioridad”, on projects that supply clean water to underprivileged and underserved Honduran communities.
